The original Douay-Rheims, the Rheims New Testament (1582) and Douay Old Testament (1609–1610), the first complete English Catholic Bible, not the later Challoner revision (1749–1752) that almost every “Douay-Rheims” in print and online today reproduces. The verbatim 1609 text sits beside a gently modern-spelling reading, with the translators’ marginal glosses, annotations, and the Latin Vulgate. The whole Bible, all 73 books, Old and New Testament, is now complete and free to read online.

Read the Catechism of the Council of Trent
The Roman Catechism, commissioned by the Council of Trent and published under St. Pius V in 1566, in the Rev. J. Donovan’s translation. All 412 leaves have been read against the original printing, and the printer’s own marginal summaries stand beside the paragraphs they head, as they do on the page. Where the 1829 is defective the correction is applied and the printed reading shown beside it, so nothing is repaired silently. Donovan’s page numbers are kept throughout, because the Praxis and the General Index refer to them 1,251 times between them.
