The Catechism of the Council of Trent

Translated by the Rev. J. Donovan, Royal College, Maynooth · Baltimore, 1829

Every one of the 412 leaves has been read against the facsimile twice — once for its setting and once as prose against the Latin of the Rome edition of 1845. The printer’s own marginal summaries stand beside the paragraphs they head, as they do on the page.

The text is Donovan’s own, set as he printed it. Where the 1829 is defective the correction is applied and the printed reading shown beside it, so nothing is repaired silently: 342 such places are recorded, of which twenty-one are the translator’s own rather than his printer’s — every one of them listed here. His page numbers are kept throughout, because the Praxis and the General Index refer to them 1,251 times between them.
